Onwan / عنوان
An editorial assistant for journalists, inside Google Docs.
Onwan helps a journalist move from idea to proposal, desk research, fieldwork plan, story framework, draft review, and source checking without leaving the document they work in. It reads the text the journalist selects, or the tab they have open, and writes the requested result back into that same tab in Arabic or English.
Current status
Onwan is in limited pilot testing and is not yet publicly available in the Google Workspace Marketplace. There is no public sign-up and no purchase on this site.
What it accesses
- Onwan uses the restricted Google permission
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/documents.currentonly. It can only reach the document the journalist has open, including that document's tabs, and cannot open, list, or search any other file in Google Drive. - The signed-in Google account email is used to authenticate requests and to match a licence to the correct person.
- Editorial text is sent to the Onwan backend and Google Gemini only to carry out the requested action. It is not kept in Onwan's database or application logs after the response.
Details are in the Datenschutzerklärung.
AI and editorial responsibility
Onwan generates drafts and plans with an AI model. Output can be wrong or incomplete. The journalist remains responsible for verification, sourcing, and everything they publish.
